A Deep Third Man
I Once heard a tip from Stephen Sondheim about songwriting. He said don't write about what you think other people might want to hear, write about your own experiences, because that's what's really interesting.

So that's what I did with "A Deep Third Man", I wrote about my world: the people I've met; the things I've done; the stuff I've seen and the sheer madness I seem to see all around me. The older I get, the madder it seems.

I was asked recently what the main themes of the album were and I struggled to answer because there seem to be so many. After a bit of thought, I decided they could be boiled down into four main areas: love, loss, injustice and growing old.

There is one central theme that runs right through the album and indeed, through every part of my life. It's best summed up in the words of a brilliant Mancunian poet called Tony Walsh:
Choose love.
